Notey for Android

Privacy Policy

Effective date: June 21, 2026

1. Overview

This Privacy Policy explains how the Notey Android application ("Notey," "the app," "we," "us," or "our") handles information. It applies to the app with package name com.github.xiaofeidev.notey and to this privacy policy website.

Notey lets you create text notes and keep selected notes visible as Android notifications. No Notey account is required. Note titles and note content are stored locally on your device and are not intentionally uploaded to our servers.

2. Information we process

Notes and app settings

Your note titles, note content, archive and pin status, and lock-screen privacy selections are stored in the app's local database. Preferences such as your local Pro status and advertising frequency state are also stored locally.

Depending on your Android device and backup settings, Android may include locally stored app data in a cloud backup or device-to-device transfer associated with your Google account. These backup features are provided and controlled by Google and your device manufacturer.

Advertising information

The free version uses Google AdMob to provide banner and app-open advertising. The Google Mobile Ads SDK may process:

  • Advertising and app-instance identifiers;
  • IP address and general location inferred from it;
  • Device, operating system, app version, language, and network information;
  • Ad impressions, clicks, and other interactions; and
  • Performance, fraud-prevention, and diagnostic information.

Notey does not request precise location permission. Pro users do not receive ads, although a previously initialized third-party SDK may retain information already processed under its applicable retention rules.

Crash and diagnostic information

We use Firebase Crashlytics to detect crashes and improve reliability. Crashlytics may receive crash stack traces, installation identifiers, device model, operating system and app version, timestamps, and technical state associated with a crash. Notey may attach limited app-state values such as whether Pro is enabled, the allowed pin limit, and the number of pinned notes. We do not intentionally attach note titles or note content to crash reports.

Remote configuration

Firebase Remote Config is used to retrieve operational settings, currently including advertising frequency rules. It may process an app-installation identifier, IP address, device and app information, and configuration request metadata. It is not used to upload your notes.

Purchases

Notey uses Google Play Billing for the optional Notey Pro one-time purchase. Google Play processes the payment and associated account and transaction information. Notey receives product, purchase status, purchase token, and acknowledgement information needed to unlock and restore Pro. We do not receive or store your full payment card details.

This website

This is a static website. We do not use website analytics, advertising scripts, contact forms, or cookies on it. Firebase Hosting may process standard request information, such as an IP address, browser information, requested URL, and timestamp, to deliver and protect the site.

3. How information is used

Information is processed only as reasonably necessary to:

  • Provide note, notification, backup, and purchase functionality;
  • Display and measure advertising in the free version;
  • Prevent advertising abuse and invalid activity;
  • Diagnose crashes, maintain security, and improve reliability;
  • Deliver operational configuration; and
  • Meet legal, accounting, and platform obligations.

Where applicable law requires consent for advertising or related storage, the relevant consent choices determine how Google may process advertising information. In other cases, processing may be necessary to provide requested functionality or based on legitimate interests in operating, securing, and improving Notey.

4. Third-party services

Notey relies on the following Google services, which process information under their own terms and privacy documentation:

These services may process information in countries outside your country of residence. Their policies describe their safeguards and available controls.

5. How information is shared

We do not sell your note content or intentionally disclose it to advertisers. Information described above may be processed by Google as our service provider or independent provider for advertising, diagnostics, configuration, hosting, and purchase processing.

We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, enforce legal rights, protect users or the public, investigate fraud or security issues, or respond to a valid legal request. If responsibility for Notey is transferred, relevant operational records may be transferred subject to this Policy and applicable law.

6. Retention and deletion

Notes and local preferences remain on your device until you delete them, clear the app's storage, or uninstall Notey. Copies may remain in Android backups until they expire or are removed through your Google account and device backup controls.

Google retains advertising, diagnostic, installation, hosting, and purchase information according to its applicable policies and legal obligations. Purchase records may be retained for transaction, fraud-prevention, tax, and accounting purposes.

Because Notey has no user account and we do not receive your note content, we generally cannot retrieve or delete local notes for you. You can delete them directly in the app or through Android's app storage controls.

7. Your choices and rights

Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive information about personal data processing, and to withdraw consent where processing relies on consent.

  • Delete local notes in Notey, or clear all app data in Android settings.
  • Manage Android cloud backups in your device or Google account settings.
  • Manage notification and lock-screen visibility in Android and Notey settings.
  • Reset or delete your device advertising identifier and manage ad personalization in Android or Google settings.
  • Use the privacy choices presented in the app when such choices are required and available.
  • Manage purchases, refunds, and payment information through Google Play.

You may contact us about a privacy request using the method below. We may need enough information to understand and respond to the request, but we will not ask for your note content.

8. Children's privacy

Notey is a general-audience productivity app and is not directed to children under 13 or the minimum age required in their jurisdiction. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through Notey, please contact us.

9. Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures intended to protect information. Notes are stored in the app's private local storage, subject to Android security, device access, notification visibility, and backup settings. No method of storage or transmission is completely secure, so absolute security cannot be guaranteed.

10. International processing

Google and its service infrastructure may process information in countries other than the country where you live. Those countries may have different data-protection laws. Google describes the legal mechanisms and safeguards it uses in its privacy documentation.

11. Changes to this Policy

We may update this Policy when Notey, its service providers, or legal requirements change. We will post the revised Policy at this URL and update the effective date. Material changes may also be communicated in the app or through the Google Play listing where appropriate.
